What is a lean supply chain?

Lean system is typically applied to manufacturing lean techniques and focus are applicable anywhere there are processes to improve, including the total supply chain. A lean supply chain is one that manufactures just what , how, when and where it is needed

Lean manufacturing or lean production, often simply "lean", is a method for the elimination of waste within a production system. It also takes into account waste created through overburden and waste created through not systematic in workloads . Working from the side of the client who ready to use a product or service, "value" is any action or process that a customer would be willing to pay for.

The Toyota Production System (TPS)

It is a socio-technical system, developed by Toyota, that comprises its management philosophy and practices. The TPS organizes manufacturing and logistics for the automobile manufacturer which includes relation with suppliers and customers. The system is a major precursor of the more generic "lean manufacturing.” Originally called "just-in-time production

The main objectives of the TPS are

overburden (muri)
inconsistency (mura)
to eliminate waste (muda)

There are seven kinds of muda

• Waste of overproduction

• Waste of time (waiting)

• transportation waste

• Waste of product itself

• Waste of stock at hand

• Waste of movement

• Waste of making defective products

• TPS is grounded on two main conceptual pillars:

• Just-in-time - meaning "Making only what is needed, only when it is needed, and only in the amount that is needed"

• Jidoka - (Automation) meaning "Automation with a human touch"

• Principles

Continuous improvement

• Challenge it is a long-term vision, facing challenges with courage and creatively to realize our dreams.

• Kaizen updating business operations continuously, always visioning for creation new ideas and evolution.

• Genchi Genbutsu Go to the source to find the facts to make correct decisions.
